Using technical pens of various sizes, he has achieved the balanced thicks and thins of crow-quill technique, free of the feathering, blotting and irregularity of line that so often plague artists in that medium. Mr. Takahashi was born in Manchuria, then a Japanese province, in 1940. His family returned to Japan after the war and he lived there until 1966, when he came to the United States to study graphic design at the New York Phoenix School of Design (later absorbed by Pratt Institute).
